TITO KAYAK ARRIVES IN NEVIS TODAY(JULY 24TH 2012)

Tito Kayak aims to arrive in Nevis on July 24th 2012, to celebrate his birthday and successful travel from Venezuela to Nevis by kayak.

Who is Tito Kayak? Activist, Adventurer, Freedom Fighter, Alberto de Jesus Mercado has embarked upon yet another journey to support a cause that he passionately believes.  In an attempt to bring bring attention to the plight of "Oscar Lopez  Rivera", a fellow Community Activist with Puerto Rican roots who has been incarcerated in the United States of America for thirty-one years.  Alberto Mercado is symbolically navigating his kayak 1400 miles along the same route that was traveled by Arawaks from Venezuela to the Greater Antilles as a gesture of solidarity and courage in the fight for freedom and justice.  http://emorales7.wordpress.com/2012/07/18/tito-kayaks-repeating-islands/

Oscar Lopez Rivera has been accused of being a leader of the Puertorican Nationalist Group "Fuerzas Armadas de Liberacion Nacional (F.A.L.N.) said to be responsible for more than one hundred bombings.  Alan Prendergrast reported in the "Denver Westword News" July 12th 1995 that Mr. Rivera was sentenced to 55 years in 1981 for "Seditious Conspiracy" (Attempting to over-throw the American Government in Puerto Rico) and received and additional fifteen years in 1990 for an attempted prison escape, which he claims was fabricated.  Mr. Rivera claims that he had no involvement in the bombings or deaths. http://www.westword.com/1995-07-12/news/end-of-the-line/
Mr. Rivera has sacrificed his life to liberate his people and demand respect for Human Rights and Freedom for all.

Alberto Mercado an environmentalist a heart, has a long list of peaceful protests and excursions on his activist resume, which became labelled as civil disobedience with his 1999 protest of the U.S. Navy bombing zone in Vieques Puerto Rico located in the North-Eastern Caribbean.  In March 2000, he participated in a protest ot stop the Northern Coast of Scotland from being used by the U.S. Navy as a bombing ground.  On November 5th 2000, Tito Kayak and fellow activists put a Flag of Puerto Rico on the Statue of Liberty's Crown in New York City.  Then, on June 13th 2005 Alberto was arrested after climbing the flag pole at the United National Head Quarters in New York to change their flag to the flag from Puerto Rica while they were having a meeting with the United Nations Special Committee on Decolonization to discuss the political status of Puerto Rico.  He was ordered to spend sixty days in prison or pay a $600.00USD fine.  His supporters raised $90% of the money on his behalf to show their support http://www.workers.org/2005/world/tito-kayak-1027.

Now "Tito Kayak" is kayaking through the Caribbean Region to raise awareness for Oscar Lopez Rivera and St. Kitts and Nevis will be a part of his legacy.  On June 21st 2012 he started his journey in Venezuela and since then has visited Grenada, St. Vincent, St. Lucia, Martinique, Dominica and Guadeloupe.  His ultimate goal is to reach Washington to ask President Obama for a pardon for Oscar Lopez Rivera.  If you want to show your support to "Tito Kayak" you sponsor him at http://amigosdelmarpr.com/contacto or you can sign the petition to liberate Oscar Lopez Rivera at http://amigosdelmarpr.com/firma-la-peticion-sign-petition or continue to follow his journey at http://www.facebook.com/kayakeandoporlalibertad

Top Sound Chinese Assassin will be in St. Kitts and Nevis for the first time. Ever!
“Born and raised in Kingston, systems: Studio B. International, Road Star International, King Earthquake, Leo tech Hi Power, Katarock Sound and now Chinese Assassin.

Telling us about his earliest days with music, Ringo reminisced with us by sharing "from I was a youth growing up in Mona Heights, my brothers and some friends of mine decided to form a sound system by the name of Studio B.  We were very young then and all we did was eat, drink, and sleep music.  this was my introduction to the music world, both uptown parties and in the dance hall.  Performing in both worlds was not the norm, so it was here I came to a crossroad where I had to choose if I wanted to remain uptown or go straight dancehall.

My brother Bobby Chin and I decided we want to be Reggae / Dance hall selectors, and so we moved on to other sound systems.”Further in his journey, Ringo met Mr. Trevor Levy who was the owner of Road Star Int’l, and after playing alongside them one night, was so impressed with the talent of the DJ that he asked if he would allow the young DJ to tour with them. The answer was yes, which began his career with the sound. “This was a good time for me as I was learning how to select and manage a true Dance hall sound. Playing for Road Star allowed me to compete with other sound systems, and we were very successful at this. I also gained most of my experience playing in the other parishes of Jamaica and mastering the art of being a sound clash selector. I loved playing for Road Star,Big ups to Quincy Jones and the rest of the crew. It was with this sound I got my first opportunity to play in another country. We went on tour in Canada to do a few shows in different cities.

Playing with Road Star led to King Earthquake a big sound out of Washington DC, which led to Leo Tech Hi Power. While Ringo built his experience, his youngest brother, Peter who was now living in Florida decided to launch his own sound. He started out doing a mixed CD’s, and after getting rave reviews, launched Chinese Assassin, the sound system. “I decided to move from New York and help him manage and run the sound” recalls Ringo. “Our mixed CD’s got so popular so fast that we started taking bookings to do parties and dances!”

Playing among some of the biggest names in the business, Chinese Assassins have played in countries Jamaica, Bermuda, Belize, Amsterdam, England,Canada, The Virgin Islands, Cayman Island,The Bahamas, Costa Rica and almost all of North America. Some of the sounds that we have performed with include: Black Chiney, Mighty Crown, Bass Odyssey, Katarock, Poison Dart, Renaissance,Code Red,Adonai and Foundation from Groningen, Holland. We also did a show with Byron Lee and the Dragonairs in the Bahamas which i will never forget as it was shortly after Byron Lee passed away”. KING PUNGWA
"St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN):  King Pungwa was crowned the 2010-2011 National Calypso Monarch just before 1:00 o'clock Thursday morning.  The last performer in the first round and the first to appear in the second, Pungwa made his mark in two dramatic presentations at the tightly-contested show.

An enthusiastic crowd sang lustily along with the three-time title-holder with the distinctive voice during his first song, "Hang 'Em High." His presentation featured a prison, a gallows and a dramatic mock hanging; complete with the masked hang man, the preacher and the hooded criminal, his twitching body left swinging from the noose at the end of the song.  In his second appearance,  Pungwa sang "Take De Old Clothes Off;" a song that spoke to the hypocrisy of the clergy, and the need to shed the immorality and start anew.  He controlled the stage jumping, and turning and spinning as he sang, near the end ripping of his dark garments with a dramatic flourish to reveal a white suit underneath.
King Pungwa won the title back-to-back in 2001 and 2002". Ref. http://www.winnfm.com/news2.asp?NewsID=5701
